So last week Makayla was retested on her allergens through the skin prick test. The results weren't what we've been praying for, but I still believe God has us on this road for a reason. For that I will continue to trust in Him & learn to rely on Him more when all those stressful eating days come along. I have many close friends who also have children with food allergies so it's so encouraging to have their support as we all walk through this together. The thing that sets me apart is I have to deal with 2 diseases myself. This can put my patience & energy level very low at times. Sometimes I say, "Enough, God...I can't handle any more stress!" Then I come back in my heart to, "I know you have a plan & a purpose for everything. There are so many around me that have it way worse. Thank you for your blessings." The ever present battle of my frail human spirit.
So before Makayla tested positive for dairy, rice, & beef. She had a reaction to soy in the past so the allergist wanted her to avoid soy. He also wanted to avoid all tree nuts (precautionary) and gluten. As you know, that exclusion list doesn't leave you with many options. Since she has to take the speciality formula (Neocate) it really didn't matter. The issue is she isn't learning to eat different things which may hurt us later if she's cleared.
This time Makayla tested positive for dairy, beef, and egg whites. As far as the test shows, the rice allergy has been eliminated! PRAISE THE LORD! I got so excited thinking of all the possibilities she could now have since rice is the main substitute for gluten free foods. Then I found the eggs...so it limits us once again. He also wants us to continue to avoid tree nuts, soy, & gluten. We are to start introducing rice back in her diet to see if we notice a reaction or not. In the near future they will consider a reintroduction of soy & wheat & peanut. This will have to come with an okay from her GI too.
So she's had a little rice in the past few days. She also hasn't been eating very good the past few days. I'm going to stop the rice for a week or so and see if her eating improves. If it does, then I will reintroduce rice and see what happens. Since her allergens affect her internally it takes some time to figure out if she's reacting.
She will probably won't be tested again until next summer unless something drastic changes or her GI wants her tested again. So until then, we will continue on this journey...
