Yes, I was one of those crazy people who watched the memorial service of Michael Jackson yesterday. It was actually pretty good. Of course, the saddest part came at the very end when his 11 year old daughter spoke about her daddy. If that didn't break your heart, then it must be made of stone. Anyway, also at the end, Marlon Jackson (one of Michael's brothers) spoke. He said something that I haven't been able to get out of my mind. As soon as the words came out of his mouth, I thought, the same could be said about Jesus.
Marlon said, "We will never understand what he endured...not being able to walk across the street without a crowd gathering around him...being judged...ridiculed...how much pain can one take?"
I translated it like this, "We will never understand what He endured...not being able to walk across the street without a crowd gathering around Him...being judged...ridiculed...how much pain can One take?"
What powerful words and words that ring soooo true for our Savior! It is just a reminder to me that Jesus suffered in every way while on this earth. Yes, He is God, but He put Himself in the form of man in every way...He could feel & experience not only the joys, but also the pain, suffering, and heartache. I am not alone in the trials I go through in life. Big or small, Jesus has been there. He KNOWS what I'm feeling. I just need to keep looking to Him to help guide me every step of the way.
A friend of mine from high school, who is also now a pastor, spoke on Romans 8:28-29 recently. "And we know that in all things God works for the good of those who love Him, who have been called according to His purpose. For those God foreknew He also predestined to be conformed to the likeness of His Son, that he might be the firstborn among many brothers."
A lot of people twist that first verse around, but we must remember that our definition of good doesn't always match God's definition. Our definition means positive, blessings, contentment, and happiness. God's definition of good is what it will take for me to look more like Jesus. A lot of the times God uses the pathway of suffering for that good to happen. God, help me to look more & more like you everyday...even if that means more suffering!
