A Quick Makayla Update

I took Makayla in this morning for her weekly weight check. She is down 4 more ounces...17lbs 3oz. She has officially lost 1 pound which is A LOT for a 13 month old. I then called the GI to tell them about the weekend. We've been trying the new medicine which isn't making her feel any better. I also told them about how her food looks like it's not being digested. It's just passing through her one way or another. So the nurse actually TALKED to Dr. Montes...big shocker...and this is what he wants to do.

He is switching her meds...back to Prevacid. He wants to also stop the Zantac (not like it was working anyway) and start Bethanechol (Urecholine). The Prevacid is a protein pump inhibitor which is supposed to stop so much acid from being produced. The second medicine is to help with motility...get the food moving through her system so it can be better absorbed. He is also ordering 2 more tests for her. One will be an Upper GI Series which is where they put in a contrast & take X-Rays of her digestion. The second will be a Modified Barium Swallow test where a therapist will be there to evaluate her swallowing and see if she's not aspirating. They should be calling tomorrow to get these scheduled. We still didn't get an answer on if this could be Celiac disease or if they tested a biospy during her scope for that. I will try again to find out tomorrow.

I also got 2 more "second opinions" scheduled. We are going to see another GI specialist this time from Phoenix Children's Hospital. We will be seeing him next Wednesday. This Saturday we are going to see a Naturopathic Medical Doctor (NMD) about Makayla's GERD. We are not satisfied with the whole medicine route...which doesn't seem to be working anyway...so we are praying there may be a more natural answer to help her.

We are both really frustrated and what the answer to why her GERD is being irritated so bad. She's still refusing to eat much of anything. She did pretty good drinking her bottle today...about 16 ounces...but it's still a far cry from the 28-32 they want her drinking.

Please continue to pray that her weight stops dropping so they don't have to put a tube in her little body. Please pray that God will give us the strength to get through this difficult time and that He may reveal some answers or solutions for us!
