Well, this is my very first blog post! I never thought I would have a blog. Seriously! I used to have a Myspace, but now I have a Facebook. I also have several emails. This is a great way to keep in touch with friends & family and reconnect with friends from my childhood. I seem to be so busy that it is hard to keep up in my correspondence through all those communications. Blogging would seem like the LAST thing I would have time to do. I am going to try and make it a priority though. The little girl pictured at the top is the reason why.
You see, in the past 5 months, 3 families that I know and love have lost someone unexpectedly. First, the Pearsons and the Holbs. Both of which are/were Blackhawk (my church & school growing up) families. Drew Pearson had married a girl named Emily Holb. They were both young in their mid-20's. I used to babysit Drew when he was younger. About 5 months ago, Emily gave birth to their new baby girl, Peyton, in Florida. Drew was driving home the NEXT morning from the hospital and was killed in a car accident. The next heartbreak happened about 4 weeks ago. A classmate of mine (from Blackhawk again where I graduated with 34 people), Scott Amstutz, suddenly lost his wife, Rachel. Rachel and I used to work together at Chick-fil-A during high school. She was at home nursing their 1 WEEK OLD baby girl when she suddenly got a pain in her chest. She handed Scott the baby and died. Scott is now left to parent a 6 year old girl, a 4 year old boy, and a newborn. They were in their early 30's. Finally, this past week, one of my favorite teachers (from Blackhawk of course) lost his one and only daughter. She was just home from finishing her 2nd year in college where she had a seizure in the shower and died.
Needless to say my heart has been heavy this year and death is always on my mind. We never know when the time will come when God calls us Home. After Rachel's death (especially), I began to think if that would have been me, Makayla (my beautiful daughter), would have no memory of me. Rachel used to write a blog and friends are turning her blog into a book for her children. As they get older they will be able to read this book of her writings and learn more about who their Mom was and how much she loved them. This is the main reason for my blog. It is to have written down for Makayla to some day read my thoughts and feelings about what is going on in our life and what God is teaching me. If God would call me Home, then my friends and family could turn my blog into a book for her to read. If I get to live a long, full life, well, then she will still get to read my words. I want her to read about how much I love God and attempt to serve Him will all I have. I want her to read about how much I love her Dad and treasure him down to my core. I want her to read about how much I love her and how thankful I am that God chose me to be her Mom. A great bonus for blogging will be to write down all the things she says and does as she grows. As we know, when we age we forget a lot of things, so this blog will help be a history on us...The Petrey Family!
Let the blogging begin!!!
