Makayla Update

So we have had a lot of fun this summer and are so ready for the heat to be over.  We are going stir crazy in the house!

The big news in the house is that Makayla is FINALLY potty trained (minus the nights).  We sabotage any success she would have at night because she still has to drink 5-7oz of milk at bedtime.  So she has to wear a pullup to bed.  She has mastered the pee part many months ago, but the poop part was a much more difficult & stressful process.  We were beginning to believe that she would never get it because of fear, but she finally overcame it on her own time.  A big motivation for her this last month or so was the possibility of going to preschool.  She has been begging us for months to go to school.  We kept telling her that to go to school she has to be potty trained in both areas.

So this morning, mom & I, with Makayla of course, went to visit a Christian preschool a few miles from our house.  We both liked it, and Makayla loved it.  She had a pouty lip when we had to leave.  Of course, I think she thinks she will just be playing there.  She said the other day that she wants to go to school and have friends.  We thought that was cute.  So her first day of preschool will be this coming Thursday.  She will go on Tues/Thurs from 8:45a-11:45a.  Of course, my biggest fear is the snack/eating issues.  I pray that she will not have a reaction to another child's snack, and I pray she will not feel left out if she can't eat what the other kids are eating.

Makayla still LOVES school buses and screams, "SCHOOL BUSSSS" everytime she sees one.  She is highly disappointed though that she won't be riding on one to school.

Speaking of allergies, she has her appt in a few weeks to get re-tested on everything.  We know she still has reactions to rice even though it doesn't show up in her bloodwork anymore.  We don't know about soy because I can't get her to try anything that has just soy in it!  lol  She will then see her GI doctor in mid-October.  He's thinking that she will be on her speciality formula at least until age 4.

Her swimming lessons are over although we may continue privately with one of her teachers from the summer.  She sure has made drastic improvements since the beginning of summer.  It's amazing!  We found a public pool in Chandler that does $1 family swims on Sunday afternoons so we've been going there every week.  They have a large kid pool with slides & tons of sprayers.  They also have 2 larger water slides and a lazy river that Makayla enjoys.  It's been a lot of fun even with the HOT temps.

Makayla took a massive tumble down the stairs a few weeks ago.  She tried to come down the stairs in Daddy's dress shoes, but it didn't work out so well.  She has had 2 black eyes and a massive bump on her forehead.  Praise the Lord, she seems okay and the bruising is finally going away!  It subtracted about 10 years from my life!

After about 7 years of wanting recessed lighting in our house, we finally have it!  It is so exciting and looks amazing!!  I will post some pics soon once all the holes get patched (hopefully Thursday).

I am not back at the college this fall.  I keep looking at it as a positive to spend more time with Makayla in these precious years that go so fast.  I do miss my athletes & training though.  So I am just coaching cheer again at Gilbert Christian.  I have both varsity & junior high this season.  It's been a challenging start, but I try to stay positive & keep focused on my end goal knowing there will be many bumps along the way.  Sometimes I wonder if I should give up high school and just coach competitive somewhere, but I think I will stick it out a little longer there.  We did go to cheer camp this summer at Azusa Pacific University in CA with FCC, and it was amazing!!!  We're cheering for football & basketball this year so I will be busy!

Well, hopefully soon we will be exiting the confines of the AC house and be able to experience the great outdoors again...
